Thompson becomes Red River Valley & Western's first-ever SVP, GM

The Red River Valley & Western Railroad Co. (RRVW) recently appointed Andrew Thompson to the newly created position of senior vice president and general manager. Reporting to RRVW President William Drusch, Thompson will be responsible for managing the 517-mile regional's day-to-day activities, including those affecting transportation, marketing, engineering and administration.

Thompson most recently served BNSF Railway Co. as VP of packaged commodities. During his 27-year career with BNSF and its predecessor railroads, he also served as VP of aluminum and non-ferrous metals and ores; general manager of merchandise operations; assistant VP of transportation; division general manager; division superintendent; assistant general manager; assistant superintendent, superintendent, and president of the Lake Superior Terminal; switchman; and yardmaster.

RRVW was formed in 1987 after the railroad acquired track from BNSF in central and southeastern North Dakota, and western Minnesota.
