Nebraska Central Railroad Co. (NCRC) has appointed Eldon Vohs vice president of operations. He will report to Chief Operating Officer Tres Meyer and be based at the short line’s headquarters in Norfolk, Neb.

Vohs will be responsible for train dispatching and operations, and helping NCRC meet its objective to create a best-in-class safety culture by focusing on compliance and capital.

He most recently was general manager of the 500-mile Kyle Railroad, which is owned by Genesee & Wyoming Inc. Vohs began his 35-year railroading career as a locomotive engineer for BNSF Railway Co. and later served as a trainmaster and engineering supervisor.

Owned by Rio Grande Pacific Corp., NCRC operates 340 miles of track in the central portion of Nebraska from Columbus to Grand Island. The short line's routes include five former Union Pacific Railroad branch lines and one former BNSF branch line. NCRC also retains trackage rights to 70 miles of UP's mainline between North Platte and Omaha, Neb.

Meanwhile, Gulf & Ohio Railways Inc. (G&O) has appointed Todd Burchette chief operating officer. He most recently was a regional vice president for G&O.

Burchette previously served as general manager of the 93-mile Yadkin Valley Railroad, which is owned by G&O.
