Tri-City Railroad Co. Vice President and Chief Operating Officer John Miller will retire tomorrow, the Kennewick, Wash.-based short line announced yesterday.

Miller's retirement comes after a 42-year career in the railroad industry. His contributions to Tri-City have enhanced the short line's existing business relationships and continued growth of new partnerships, Tri-City officials said in a press release.

Miller began his rail career with the Milwaukee Road Railroad in 1974 as an internal auditor. During the Milwaukee Road's bankruptcy, he was a key member of the team to develop a plan of reorganization, which resulted in the Soo Line Railroad's acquisition of the railroad in 1985.

In addition to the Soo Line, Miller served stints at the Wisconsin Central Railroad, the Southern Pacific Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad. He joined Tri-City as VP and chief operations officer in March 2015.

"Tri-City Railroad is grateful for the opportunity to work with John and wishes him all the best as he makes a well deserved transition to retirement and an opportunity to devote more time to his family and his lifelong support of the Green Bay Packers," company officials said.
