Yesterday, Norfolk Southern Corp. announced John Rathbone will assume the role of executive vice president of finance and chief financial officer, and James Squires will become EVP of administration. Previously, their roles were reversed.
Since joining NS in 1981, Rathbone has served as VP and controller, senior VP and controller, and EVP of administration, a position he’s held since 2004.
Squires joined NS in 1992 and since has served as VP of law in 2003, SVP of law, SVP of financial planning and EVP of finance, a role he assumed in 2007.
Meanwhile, Patriot Rail Corp. announced that Arthur Shoener has joined its board. He leads his own international consulting practice where he has worked closely with several railroads.
A fourth-generation railroader with 45 years of rail industry experience, Shoener has served in various senior-level roles, including president and chief executive officer of Kansas City Southern Railway Co., where he led the integration of Kansas City Southern de México S.A. de C.V. into KCS’ network. Shoener also previously was president and chief operating officer of Kansas City Southern Corp., and executive vice president of operations for Union Pacific Railroad.
“Art has an extraordinary track record of success as a leader in the highest levels of the railroad business [and] has excelled on some of the biggest stages in the industry,” said Patriot Rail President and CEO John Fenton in a prepared statement. “His experience, creativity and strategic orientation will be a great asset as we seek to establish Patriot as a more prominent player on the national stage.”
Owned by SteelRiver Infrastructure Partners, Patriot Rail owns and operates 13 short lines in 13 states.
