Union Pacific Railroad recently announced a number of senior management appointments in its operating and labor relations departments. The appointments take effect Sept. 1.

The Class I named Tom Jacobi vice president-operating systems and practices. In the newly created position, he will lead UP's network reliability program, which calls for implementing technology-driven operations such as communications-based train control. Most recently VP-operations for the Western Region, Jacobi has held a range of operating positions since joining the Missouri Pacific Railroad in 1977.

UP promoted Assistant VP-Operations Ken Hunt to succeed Jacobi. Hunt — who joined Missouri Pacific in 1981 — previously has served as manager of terminal operations, director of quality and general superintendent of transportation services.

The railroad also named Rick Turner to the labor relations team to oversee negotiations and interpretations for collective bargaining agreements covering operating crafts. Most recently VP-premium operations, he has held a range of sales and marketing positions since joining Missouri Pacific in 1981.

UP appointed Dennis Jacobson to succeed Turner. Since joining the railroad in 1972, Jacobson has served in a number of operating, and marketing and sales positions.

Finally, the Class I promoted General Director-Maintenance of Way for the Western Region Ken Sito to chief engineer for the Southern Region to succeed Jerry Rugg, who is retiring. Trent Allen was named Sito's successor.
