UP names three execs to senior operations positions

Last week, Union Pacific Railroad appointed Charles Malone vice president-terminal planning and operations; Joe Santamaria, regional VP-south to succeed Malone; and Randy Blackburn, regional VP-central to succeed Santamaria.

A more than 35-year veteran of UP and its predecessor railroads, Malone will be responsible for terminal productivity and asset utilization, including terminal requirements associated with the Unified Plan, as well as yard capacity planning and safety. He previously served as assistant VP-terminal operations, superintendent, trainmaster and yardmaster.

Since joining UP in 1990, Santamaria has held various positions, including chief mechanical officer, general director of locomotive maintenance and director of locomotive shops-North Little Rock.

Blackburn most recently served as VP-premium operations. Since joining the Missouri Pacific Railroad in 1971, he has served UP and its predecessor roads as assistant VP of marketing-Mexico, superintendent of transportation services, director of operations control, superintendent-crew management and trainmaster.
