Union Pacific Railroad yesterday announced the promotion of Chief Information Officer Rahul Jalali to executive vice president, effective June 1.
Jalali has played a pivotal role in the company's modernization efforts and will continue leading the development, implementation and operation of UP's information and telecommunications technology, UP officials said in a press release. Most recently, he served as senior VP and CIO, having joined UP in 2020.
Under Jalali's leadership, the Class I's technology team has driven innovative solutions to optimize customer supply chains, enhance efficiency and improve the railroad's service overall, UP officials said.
Before joining UP, Jalali spent 23 years with Walmart Inc. in multiple leadership roles, including corporate VP in the technology division.
Jalali was named to Forbes' 2022 CIO Next List, which highlights technology leaders who are redefining the role of CIO. In 2023, he was appointed by the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to its cybersecurity advisory committee.
