The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority’s board (VTA) has appointed Robert Fabela general counsel to succeed Kevin Allmand, who retired in December.

A former senior deputy city attorney in San Jose, Calif., Fabela served the city for 15 years and spent nearly six years with Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto, Calif., where he focused on employment, intellectual property and business disputes.

“[Fabela’s] keen perception, balanced business judgment and communication skills will serve VTA well,” said VTA Chairman Ken Yeager in a prepared statement.

Fabela will begin serving his three-year contract with VTA on Jan. 24.
