The Valley Metro Rail Boards of Directors and the Valley Metro Regional Public Transportation Authority (RPTA) last week elected officers for the fiscal-year 2021 term between July 1, 2020, and June 30, 2021.

Mesa City Council member Francisco Heredia was elected chair of the Valley Metro Rail board, and Kate Gallego, mayor of Phoenix, was elected vice chair.

The board plans, constructs, operates and maintains light-rail and high-capacity systems in the greater Phoenix area. The board includes elected officials from four member cities who provide policy direction for rail service.

Meanwhile, the Valley Metro RPTA board elected Peoria City Council member Jon Edwards chair; Heredia, vice chair; and Gallego, treasurer.

Valley Metro RPTA operates regional bus service and alternative transportation programs for commuters, seniors and people with disabilities in the greater Phoenix area.

Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke and Goodyear Vice Mayor Bill Stipp will serve as joint subcommittee members.
