The Federal Transit Administration yesterday announced the appointment of Veronica Vanterpool as deputy administrator.
Since August 2021, Vanterpool has served as senior adviser in the FTA Office of the Administrator, where she coordinated the agency's work ron climate change, equity, innovation, safety and workforce development, FTA officials said in a press release. She also presided over the agency's first strategic plan published in more than 20 years.
Prior to joining the FTA, Vanterpool served in various roles at Delaware Transit Corp. (operating as DART First State), Vision Zero Network and Tri-State Transportation Campaign, and on the board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in New York City.
Vanterpool is the first Latina to serve in her role as deputy administrator, as is Administrator Nuria Fernandez.
"As deputy administrator, I know [Vanterpool] will continue to pursue new initiatives and advance existing priorities at the FTA," Fernandez said.
