Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) recently elected a new chairman and board member.

Effective immediately, board representative for Maryland Robert Smith will serve a one-year term as board chairman, succeeding Jim Graham, who will remain on the board as a District of Columbia representative.

A partner in architectural firm Smith Colen Architects, Smith previously served as the board’s first vice chairman.

Hunter Mill District Supervisor Catherine Hudgins was elected to represent Fairfax County on WMATA’s board, replacing Katherine Hanley.

Elected to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in 1999, Hudgins currently serves as chair of the Fairfax board’s Human Services, and Housing and Community Development committees, vice chair of the Information Technology and Transportation committees, and member of the Economic Advisory Committee.
