Yesterday, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) swore in Dan Tangherlini as interim general manager. Last month, General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Richard White resigned after nine-and-a-half years in the agency’s top post.
A WMATA alternate board member the past 10 months, the 38-year-old Tangherlini most recently served as director of the District of Columbia Department of Transportation. He previously held various positions in D.C. government, including acting director of the Department of Public Works and chief financial officer for the Metropolitan Police Department.
