Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) International has selected Therese McMillan as its woman of the year. Formerly acting administrator of the Federal Transit Administration, McMillan now serves as chief planning officer for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
She's been a "constant, active voice in advancing women in transportation," WTS officials said in a press release. Throughout her career, she's also mentored students and young professionals.Last year, McMillan met with teenagers as part of a program that encourages at-risk girls to explore male-dominated fields. She spoke to them about the challenges and rewards of being a woman in the transportation industry. McMillan will be honored at an awards banquet on May 19 during WTS' annual conference in Austin, Texas.
