WTS International today announced its annual recognition awards for 2014, including Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Chief Executive Officer Beverly Scott as "Woman of the Year."Scott and four other winners will be honored May 15 at the WTS Annual Conference in Portland, Ore."Dr. Scott’s efforts to advance women in the transportation industry has inspired many and provided the industry with new workforce development opportunities," said Marcia Ferranto, WTS president and CEO, in a press release.Scott is known throughout the North American transit industry for her "visionary leadership, results-driven management style, and progressive approach to labor-management relations," WTS officials said. She was named an "Innovator of Change" by President Barack Obama, and cited by the U.S. Department of Transportation for leadership in and service to the transit industry.In addition to Scott, the WTS will honor: • Jeannie Lee, project manager at the Orange County Transportation Authority, as Member of the Year;• the Federal Transit Administration as Employer of the Year;• Claudia Folska, a member of the Regional Transportation District of Denver's board, as the Rosa Parks Diversity Leadership Award winner; and• the Interstate-5 Skagit River Bridge Replacement Team as the Innovative Transportation Solutions Award winner.For more information about the award winners, click here.
