Last month, the Watco Cos. Inc. appointed Mike Hamilton general manager of The Great Northwest and Palouse River and Coulee City railroads.

He previously served as designated supervisor of locomotive engineers and conductor/engineer for Camas Prairie RailNet Inc., which Watco acquired in 2004 and renamed The Great Northwest Railroad. Prior to Camas Prairie, Hamilton held various positions at the St. Maries River Railroad Co., Seattle and North Coast Railroad, and Milwaukee Road, where he began his railroading career in 1974 as a bridge carpenter.

The Great Northwest operates a 77-mile line between Lewiston, Idaho, and Riparia, Wash.; Palouse River and Coulee City operates a 323-mile line in southeastern Washington.
