Earlier this week, two California transit agencies elected new board officials.
Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) named Thomas Blalock president and James Fang, vice president. A retired engineer and board member since 1994, Blalock previously served as board president in 2000. During this second stint, Blalock plans to help BART build up its reserves, provide a “fair” labor contract and minimize layoffs, he said in a statement.
BART’s longest-serving board member, Fang first was elected in 1990. He previously held presidential positions in 1998 and 2004, and served as board VP in 1997 and 2003.
Meanwhile, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority appointed Cupertino Mayor Dolly Sandoval board chairman and San Jose Council Member Sam Liccardo, vice chairman. Sandoval has been a board member since 2006; Liccardo joined the board in 2007.
