In preparation for bringing locomotives equipped with positive train control (PTC) into service, Metrolink has begun operating a test train along its San Bernardino Line.

The tests began yesterday and will continue through Friday, Metrolink officials said in a press release. These tests are required by the Federal Railroad Administration and are scheduled to occur between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.

Some additional testing during daytime hours may occur this weekend.

Testing includes a single train performing operational and braking tests at various speeds along the entirety of the San Bernardino Line. In addition to the sound of train engines operating, train horns will be blown at crossings, as required by federal law, Metrolink officials said.
