The North County Transit District (NCTD) has begun installing fiber optic cables associated with the agency's implementation of a positive train control (PTC) system for its Coaster commuter-rail line.
NTCD is installing PTC systems on all Coaster trains, along the wayside and in the control office, agency officials said in a prepared statement.
Yesterday, crews began installing fiber optic cables under track, as well as installing related transmission equipment.
The Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008 mandated fully functional PTC systems to be installed on railroads by Dec. 31. 2015.
