Last week, the Senate confirmed Joseph Boardman as Federal Railroad Administrator. Most recently commissioner of the New York Department of Transportation, Boardman will succeed Robert Jamison, who’s been serving as acting FRA administrator since January.

Boardman previously served the state’s transportation department as first deputy commissioner and assistant commissioner for the Office of Public Transportation. Prior to joining the department, he held stints as chief operating officer of Progressive Transportation Services Inc. and commissioner of public transportation in Broome County, N.Y. Boardman currently chairs the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials' (AASHTO) standing committee on rail transportation.

“Boardman comes to the agency with a thorough knowledge of the industry and a strong management background from his [commissioner] tenure,” said Association of American Railroads President and Chief Executive Officer Edward Hamberger in a prepared statement.
