Indiana Rail Road teams up with Arrow Reload to co-market transload services (7/24/2012)

The Indiana Rail Road Co. (INRD) recently entered into a business relationship with Arrow Reload Systems Inc. to revive, expand and co-market the railroad’s Senate Avenue Terminal transload services, according to an item in the summer edition of INRD’s “Mileposts” newsletter.

Located less than a mile south of downtown Indianapolis, the terminal offers access to Interstates 70, 65, 74 and 465, and transload services for various commodities, according to INRD.

Arrow Transportation Systems Inc. established Arrow Reload in 1988 to provide transload services for Canadian Pacific. The company currently operates 11 reload centers in Canada, as well as facilities in Portland, Ore., and Tacoma, Wash.

Until the economy weakened in 2008, INRD operated the Indiana Reload Center at the Senate Avenue Terminal for many years, handling lumber, steel and various bulk commodities.

“Our contacts at Canadian Pacific suggested we talk to Arrow and we were immediately impressed with … their desire not only to move freight at transloads, but to take a proactive role in marketing it,” said INRD Vice President of Business Development Bob Babcock in the news item. “With many issues facing the trucking industry, it’s making more sense than ever for companies to capitalize on the long-haul efficiencies of rail and pair it with local truck delivery.”

INRD also is preparing to offer transload services in southwest Indiana via a facility to be constructed near an Interstate 69/State Road 58 interchange in Odon, Ind.
