Video: CSX opens the Nahunta Connector

"We had to compress the construction schedule originally scheduled for a couple of months into just a few short weeks," says Amanda DeCesare, CSX director of construction engineering.

CSX recently completed its Nahunta Rail Connector project, which called for the installation of a new line to achieve more fluid operations between Jesup, Georgia, and the CSX yard in Waycross, Georgia — a pivotal location for the Class I.

The company's goal was to complete the project before the end of 2022. However, the start of construction was delayed as CSX officials waited for an environmental permit to be approved.

When that permit didn't come through until mid-December, it meant the railroad had a few weeks to get the work done safely and on time.

"We had to compress the construction schedule originally scheduled for a couple of months into just a few short weeks," says Amanda DeCesare, CSX director of construction engineering, in a CSX video about the project.
