Kathryn McQuade is leaving one Class I to join another. And she’s about to take the helm as the only female chief operating officer among the large roads.

Today, Canadian Pacific Railway announced it appointed McQuade executive vice president and COO, effective June 1.

She most recently served Norfolk Southern Corp. as EVP and chief information officer. McQuade has more than 26 years’ experience in the North American rail industry, primarily serving in senior managerial positions.

“The rail industry is becoming increasingly continental and Kathryn's proven skills, her U.S. experience and strategic relationships are a strong complement to our experienced leadership team,” said CPR President and Chief Executive Officer Fred Green in a prepared statement.

CPR also announced that Senior VP of Operations Brock Winter — who will report to McQuade — will assume additional responsibilities by managing the Class I’s North American intermodal operations.
