BNSF on a service failure-free streak for UPS (1/8/2003)

During United Parcel Service's peak season, Burlington Northern Santa Fe moved 26,461 trailers in 25 days without a service failure.

Although the peak season's over, BNSF continues to stretch its streak of consecutive days without a failure, which on Jan. 6 reached 73, according to a prepared statement.

The railroad's longest-ever streak ended in February 2000, when BNSF reached 96 consecutive failure-free days.

If the Class I remains failure-free through January, its current streak will reach a record-breaking 99 straight days.

During 2002, the railroad had 299 service failures, which decreased more than 70 percent compared with 2001 and set a new record.

"[And] not a single UPS load was compromised by theft throughout the calendar year — that's another new record, beating [2001's] total of seven compromises," said Steve Pierce, BNSF director of UPS Marketing.
