9/11: Norfolk Southern offers free rail service to aid New York recovery (9/13/2001)

9/13/2023

Norfolk Southern Corp. today offered free rail transportation service to New York state and city officials to help them remove non-hazardous construction and demolition debris from the devastated World Trade Center site.

NS would provide up to 1,000 heavy-duty rail cars staged in the New Jersey Shared Assets Area, then move the debris to disposal sites along its network.

"This is a small but tangible contribution that we can make to support the recovery effort," said David Goode, NS chairman, president and chief executive officer, in a prepared statement.
