Today, Burlington Northern Santa Fe expanded its guaranteed intermodal service, adding one lane to and from Chicago, and two lanes into and out of Kansas City.
The new Chicago-to-Phoenix, Kansas City-to-Richmond, Va., and Kansas City-to-Stockton, Calif., lanes bring to 15 the number of guaranteed intermodal-service lanes BNSF now offers to connect several major U.S. markets.
BNSF in May 2000 began offering the guaranteed-service product, which enables shippers to purchase, for a premium, a service guarantee for three intermodal service levels on international, domestic and perishable intermodal shipments in the 15 lanes. For each load that doesn't meet a scheduled customer pick-up, BNSF offers a full refund.
"BNSF's guaranteed service program is attracting new customers who have traditionally shipped only over the road," said Steve Branscum, BNSF group vice president, consumer products marketing, in a prepared statement, adding that the railroad since May 2000 has moved more than 5,000 guaranteed loads.
