BNSF Railway Co. recently presented Short-Line Achievement Awards to three small roads at the Class I’s 11th annual short-line conference in Fort Worth, Texas.
BNSF honored the contributions of connecting carriers Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad Co., Southwestern Railroad and Sierra Northern Railway.
“These awards recognize the resourcefulness and achievements of those short lines that have gone beyond our expectations through innovation, determination and hard work,” said Pete Rickershauser, BNSF vice president of network development, in a prepared statement. “We see [short lines’] role expanding in the future as they do more gathering and distribution, and aggregate blocks of cars for integration with BNSF’s network of mainline trains.”
BNSF connects with more than 200 short lines, which through August accounted for 16 percent of the Class I’s revenue.
