Belt Railway of Chicago (BRC) Jan. 29 announced plans to implement Timera Inc.’s Enterprise Workforce Management software to help manage train, engine and non-operating crews.
The software would enable BRC, an intermediate switching terminal railroad, to automate crew-management, dispatching and timekeeping functions.
"[We can] more-efficiently and consistently manage our labor force, making sure that the right person is on the right job at the right time," said Mike Shore, BRC assistant superintendent, in a prepared statement.
The software — which Timera now plans to market to regionals and short lines in addition to Class Is — is designed to enable railroads to track crew availability and work history, and react to scheduling changes by contacting, re-scheduling and placing alternate crew members in necessary positions.
