Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway boosts BNSF stake to 18.2 percent (1/21/2008)
1/21/2022Warren Buffett's stake in BNSF Railway Co. is growing by the day — literally. From Wednesday to Friday last week, Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. bought a total of 1.25 million BNSF shares for $96 million, according to Securities and Exchange Commission filings.
Berkshire Hathaway now owns 63.8 million — or 18.2 percent — of the Class I's outstanding shares. The company has purchased BNSF shares each business day during the past two weeks, excluding Jan. 11.
Berkshire Hathaway's largest single-day purchase in that period occurred Friday, when the firm bought 996,100 shares. The company also owns stakes in Norfolk Southern Corp. and Union Pacific Railroad.
