Construction of a multi-million dollar rail line to haul low-pollutant coal from one of the most sparsely settled areas in the nation is proposed by Burlington Northern in an application filed with the Interstate Commerce Commission.

The 126-mile line through the Powder River Basin of eastern Wyoming would be the longest continuous stretch of new railroad built in the United States since 1931.

Construction costs are estimated at $32.5 million.
