CG Railway owner plans return to New Orleans (2/10/2014)

2/10/2022

Last week, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and International Shipholding Corp. President Erik Johnsen announced the company will relocate its corporate headquarters from Mobile, Ala., to New Orleans, where the business was founded in 1947.

Hurricane Katrina recovery challenges prompted the company to relocate to Mobile in 2005.

International Shipholding operates a fleet of 50 cargo vessels and provides brokerage, logistics and other maritime services for an array of customers, including the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Agriculture, CSX Corp., Norfolk Southern Railway, Dow Chemical Co. and Cargill.

The company owns and operates CG Railway Inc., which provides a rail/ferry service between the Port of Mobile and Port of Coatzacoalcos in Mexico. International Shipholding plans to maintain CG Railway's operations in Mobile, including a rail-car repair facility and terminal. The company also expects to maintain an active presence at the Port of Mobile.

International Shipholding will relocate employees and resources to New Orleans after a headquarters facility is renovated next year. The entire transition will be concluded by fourth-quarter 2015, company officials said in a press release.
