At year-end, Keith Heller plans to retire as senior vice president of Canadian National Railway Co.’s Eastern Canada Region to take the reins of English Welsh & Scottish Railway (EWS), which is 40 percent owned by CN.
On Jan. 1, Heller will become EWS’ chief executive officer, succeeding Philip Mengel, who plans to join major EWS investor Berkshire Partners.
A 37-year CN veteran, Heller has served in various senior operations and management positions.
"Heller made his mark at CN in turning around the railway’s Eastern operations in the late 1990s," said CN President and CEO E. Hunter Harrison in a prepared statement.
CN also named Senior Vice President, Western Canada Region Keith Creel to succeed Heller, and Vice President, Gulf Division Peter Marshall to succeed Creel, effective Jan. 1.
Creel previously served the Illinois Central Railroad, which CN acquired in 1999. He has served CN as general manager, Michigan Zone, and vice president, Prairie Division.
Marshall joined CN in 1997, serving as vice president of bulk commodities. He previously has served as vice president of the Prairie and Midwest divisions.
