Yesterday, Canadian Pacific announced it forged a long-term partnership with Smart Sand Inc. concerning the supply and transportation of Northern White frac sand to key oil and gas producing regions, including the Bakken, Eagle Ford, Utica and Marcellus shales.
Under their first joint initiative, the partners plan to build a frac sand transload facility in Makoti, N.D., to serve the Bakken formation in the Williston Basin beginning in early 2013.
Smart Sand's primary facility, which opened in late June on CP’s line in Oakdale, Wis., will supply premium Northern White frac sand for the new transload facility.
“Smart Sand has prime resources and processing capabilities which align well with CP's shipping presence in the energy sector,” said Jane O'Hagan, CP’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer, in a prepared statement. “Together, we will supply a reliable stream of high quality Northern White frac sand.”
