Eastern Idaho Railroad expects more annual carloads from two shippers (12/27/2002)
12/27/2022In 2003, Eastern Idaho Railroad Inc. (EIRR) plans to increase carloads with two shippers that recently opened facilities on the railroad's line, according to the December newsletter of EIRR parent company The Watco Cos.
WOW Logistics, a dairy warehousing firm, recently constructed a 232,650-square-foot warehouse in Jerome, Idaho, that includes dry and refrigerated storage space, 18 truck bays and nine rail doors.
The shipper plans to move more cheese in 500-pound barrels on the 270-mile short line's reefer cars throughout the United States, and powdered whey throughout the United States, and to the Pacific Northwest for export.
EIRR officials believe the additional business with WOW Logistics will generate 1,100 more annual carloads.
Meanwhile, Western Alfalfa Farms Inc. recently built a 108,000-square-foot facility in Hazelton, Idaho, to load outbound hay, and receive inbound shipments of cottonseed and other feed ingredients.
The shipper installed track in the middle of the facility to accommodate under-roof loading of hay onto rail cars. Western Alfalfa plans to ship 900 annual carloads of hay on EIRR throughout the United States, including points in New York, Florida and Georgia.
The shipper also expects to receive about 1,100 annual carloads of inbound dairy feed.
Within two years, EIRR officials believe Western Alfalfa's business will generate $365,400 in annual revenue.
