Florida East Coast Railway L.L.C. recently installed wireless remote monitoring systems on its entire locomotive fleet.

Supplied by Wi-Tronix L.L.C., the systems use a differential Global Positioning System, commercial cellular technology and an ultra-sonic fuel level sensor to track and monitor locomotives. The system can monitor a locomotive’s location, speed, fuel level, throttle position, horsepower and brake pressure.

The 351-mile regional will use the system to wirelessly download locomotive event recorder data to monitor crew performance, investigate incidents and implement predictive maintenance programs.
