Fortune Minerals to work with CN to haul metallurgical coal (8/24/2010)

8/24/2022

Yesterday, Fortune Minerals Ltd. announced it has developed a new rail transportation option for hauling anthracite metallurgical coal products from the company’s Mount Klappan project in northwest British Columbia to the Port of Prince Rupert.

The new strategy is based on existing infrastructure and provides a simpler transportation solution, company officials said in a prepared statement.

The strategy is based on quotes Fortune Minerals recently received from CN, which operates on the former B.C. Rail Dease Lake Line to Minaret, 93 miles south of Mount Klappan. The roadbed for the railway right-of-way north from Minaret to Mount Klappan already has largely been constructed and provides an existing corridor that can be upgraded for rail or truck haulage of coal from the mine to Minaret, Fortune Minerals officials said.

Fortune would invest capital to upgrade the right of way and improve the Dease Lake Line to accommodate 127-car unit trains with 95-ton carloads.
