The fourth quarter's proving to be another hot one for Greenbrier Europe.
The Greenbrier Cos. subsidiary has received orders for more than 500 new freight cars since June 1, the first day of the company's fourth fiscal quarter.
Ordered by Deutsche Bahn and Transwaggon GmbH, the freight cars will be built at Greenbrier Europe's WagonySwidnica facility in Poland.
Since Sept 1, 2002 — the beginning of Greenbrier's fiscal year — customers have ordered more than 1,300 freight cars valued at $130 million from Greenbrier Europe. As of June 30, the builder's backlog was about 1,900 units valued at $165 million, compared with 600 units valued at $45 million at the same time last year.
