Kansas City Southern de Mexico to serve new auto assembly plant in two years (12/4/2007)

12/4/2023

Last month, Kansas City Southern de Mexico S.A. de C.V. (KCSM) President and Executive Representative Jose Zozaya joined Mexican President Felipe Calderon and other dignitaries at a ceremony marking the placement of a cornerstone for a First Automobile Works (FAW) auto assembly plant near Morelia, Mexico.

FAW also will build a distribution center adjacent to KCSM’s intermodal terminal in Lazaro Cardenas.

After the assembly plant is completed in 2009, KCSM will move automotive parts from the Port of Lazaro Cardenas to the plant, and finished vehicles from the port to Mexican — and potentially South American — destinations. The plant is expected to assemble about 100,000 vehicles annually.
