"The Burlington Northern has announced that discussions of inclusion of the Milwaukee Road into the BN system have been terminated. Milwaukee Road Chairman William J. Quinn insisted, however, that the significant savings and improved service, which in Milwaukee's opinion would result from inclusion, would be mutually beneficial and in the public interest. Quinn stated the Milwaukee Road will consider the ramifications of the BN's action and the soon-expected order by the Interstate Commerce Commission in the Union Pacific-Rock Island merger case before deciding what further action it will take."
