The Surface Transportation Board recently approved Norfolk Southern Railway's request to reinstitute service on a 3.2-mile segment of its Toledo-to-Maumee, Ohio, branch line. The decision becomes effective April 16.
In August 1999, NS received STB approval to abandon the line, but kept intact the track structure and signals, and continued to provide service to A&K Railroad Materials Inc.
By reactivating the line, the Class I plans to continue serving A&K, as well as reroute traffic to Archer Daniels Midland's and Art Iron Inc.'s Toledo facilities.
NS will average 2.5 daily trains on the line based on a five-day week, rerouting a majority of the traffic within Toledo's metropolitan area.
