The Red River Valley & Western Railroad Co. (RRVW) marked a milestone yesterday. The 514-mile regional celebrated its 20th anniversary.

Since acquiring lines in southeastern and central North Dakota from the Burlington Northern Railroad and establishing RRVW in 1987, the regional has handled more than 500,000 carloads of grain, corn sweetener, sugar, machinery and other products. RRVW’s freight volume has increased 133 percent and workforce more than doubled from 46 to 100 during that timespan.

The regional also has attracted new business, including six high-volume grain elevators.

To commemorate the anniversary, RRVW is operating special passenger trains July 19-21 for invited customers, employees, community leaders and children.
