Schneider National Intermodal has chosen a primary rail carrier in the East and West. A subsidiary of trucking and logistics firm Schneider National Inc., the intermodal services provider will use CSX Intermodal and BNSF Railway Co. to consolidate its railroad network, simplify container/trailer pool operations and increase service efficiency.

Schneider National Intermodal plans to maintain secondary relationships with other Class Is to reach markets not served by CSXI and BNSF.

"Our goal remains consistent: to provide a door-to-door 'truck-like' experience for our customers," said Schneider National Intermodal President Bill Matheson in a prepared statement. "We have made it a priority to take intermodal and make it simple for our customers. In the end, this is going to save our customers significant time and money while increasing reliability."

In conjunction with the Class I agreements, Schneider National Intermodal is beginning to use one standardized container for rail moves to simplify container pools and improve network management and operations. The company will continue to offer trailer-on-flat-car service for customers who prefer premium, faster intermodal transit, Schneider National Intermodal said.
