UP sets seven-day coal train loading record in the PRB (11/30/2007)

Between Nov. 22 and 28, Union Pacific Railroad moved 284 trains out of Wyoming's Southern Powder River Basin (SPRB) — a new seven-day record.

The Class I set the previous record of 280 trains twice during the past two months.

So far in November, UP has averaged 38.1 loads per day in the SPRB, an all-time high. However, the railroad has tallied 73 missed train loading opportunities, 50 of which are attributable to mines, 12 to utilities, three to the joint line and eight due to UP issues. The Class I partially offset the missed opportunities with 58 extra loadings, UP said.
