The 10 most-read feature articles posted in 2014 on ProgressiveRailroading.com reflect several freight- and passenger-rail trends. They also demonstrate the diverse interests of our audience and, perhaps, provide a few cues to some of 2015's top story lines. Here are the top 10:

  2. Norfolk Southern Railway to roll out modified GE locomotive model as part of multiyear rebuild program (May)
  3. Liquefied natural gas could help railroads reap locomotive benefits if regulatory, technical issues are resolved (March)
  4. Texas Central Railway's plan to build a Dallas-to-Houston bullet train is gaining speed (June)
  5. South Florida rail upgrades to provide more freight, transit travel options (March)
  6. Operate Amtrak like a more nimble, customer-focused business? The railroad's leaders believe they must (August)
  7. Norfolk Southern's Bellevue Yard expansion is vital to the railroad's strategy for moving freight (November)
  8. All Aboard Florida execs talk Siemens train purchase, funding options (November)
  9. Talent drain puts rail industry on the executive recruitment beat (April)
  10. Streetcars make a comeback as U.S. cities seek to stimulate economy (March)

A Couple Of Real Pros

Angela Cotey wrote this month's cover story. It'll be the last piece she pens for us; Angela recently took a position with a Milwaukee-area publishing company. For the past 12 years, she has been a key contributor to Progressive Railroading. Angela has epitomized the word "professional" — she's a talented, conscientious team player. I've been proud to count her as a colleague. And I wish her all the best.

Meanwhile, Julie Sneider, who wrote the rail security feature, has been named senior associate editor. Another real pro, Julie has been with us the past four years and had served as associate editor. She's now our lead transit writer and, among her other responsibilities, will continue to helm our Rising Stars program. Know any railroaders under the age of 40 who are making a difference? The deadline to nominate them for the 2015 program is Feb. 13. For more information, contact Julie at 414-228-7701, ext. 517; julie.sneider@tradepress.com.
