WMATA to build West Falls Church station parking structure

Today, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) broke ground on a $13 million, 1,200-space parking structure at its West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail station.

Featuring six levels of above-ground parking, the structure will be built on an existing surface parking lot. When complete, the station will offer 2,025 spaces — a 961-space increase compared with the existing lot.

During construction, 360 parking spaces temporarily will be eliminated; additional parking will be available at two temporary permit-only satellite lots.

Expected to be complete by spring 2005, the project is being funded by the commonwealth of Virginia.
