Minnesota approves $40 million for Twin Cities transit

The Minnesota state legislature recently agreed to provide $40 million for Metro Transit — which operates light-rail and bus service in the Twin Cities — to help the agency address a $60 million fiscal-year 2006 budget shortfall.

The agency will retain its 25-cent across-the-board fare increase, which took effect July 1. However, the funds could enable Metro Transit to reduce the number of bus service cuts that are scheduled to take effect in September.
