Monterrey, Mexico, transit authority Metrorrey recently awarded a $244 million contract to a consortium comprising Bombardier Transportation, Siemens Transportation Systems and civil engineering firm Grupo Garza Ponce S.A. de C.V. to design and build 14 high-floor light-rail vehicles.

Under its $43 million portion of the contract, Bombardier will manufacture, test and commission the vehicles at its Sahagun, Mexico, facility.

Scheduled to be delivered in second-half 2007, the vehicles will operate on Metrorrey’s 5.4-mile Line 2 extension, which is scheduled to open in 2007. The project will extend Metrorrey’s 14.3-mile system toward San Nicolas de los Garza and Escobedo.
