WMATA to reprimand no-show, late-canceling passengers

On Sept. 1, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) plans to implement a no show/late cancellation policy designed to temporarily suspend passengers who repeatedly don’t show up for reservations or cancel reserved trips within an allotted time frame.

The new program is expected to save WMATA $1 million annually.

Under the policy, three no-shows or six late cancellations during a 30-day period would result in a two-week service suspension. A second violation within 12 months would result in a three-week suspension; a third violation, a four-week suspension; and subsequent violations, four-week suspensions.
