BART asks passengers to be on lookout for suspicious activity

With Memorial Day weekend kicking off the busy summer travel season, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is launching an "Eyes & Ears" anti-terrorism program, which encourages passengers to be on the lookout for unattended and suspicious bags, and unusual behavior.

The agency expects the amount of luggage carried on trains to increase as travelers take BART to Oakland and San Francisco airports.

"If we have the eyes and ears of BART’s 315,000 daily riders … then we can make BART a much less attractive target for terrorists," said BART Director Lynette Sweet in a prepared statement.
