Greater Cleveland RTA makes the grade in self-analyzing report card

During the year’s first six months, Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) improved its operations in six of seven categories included in the authority’s recently issued report card — the best results the agency has recorded since it first issued a report card in mid-2000.

GCRTA gathers information from a variety of sources to determine ridership figures, safety, customer satisfaction, on-time performance, reliability and attendance.

During the first half, ridership was up 4.1 percent, or 1.1 million rides, compared with similar 2003 data. Customer complaints dropped 16.3 percent; so far this year, GCRTA has received one complaint for every 23,430 passengers. On-time performance improved 4.1 percent to 76 percent; miles between service interruptions improved 25 percent from 6,824 miles to 8,530 miles; and unscheduled employee absences improved 7.1 percent.

However, GCRTA’s revenue dropped 4.7 percent to $18 million compared with $18.9 million in first-half 2003.
