Madrid, Spain’s Infraestructuras del Transporte (Mintra) recently awarded a $174.1 million contract to ALSTOM Transport to build 70 CITADIS vehicles for the city’s new light-rail system.

Scheduled to open in 2007, the 19-mile light-rail network is designed to expand public transportation to municipalities in the north and west.

ALSTOM will build the vehicles at its Spanish facilities. Delivery is expected to begin in 2006 and be complete in June 2007.
